I thought I should drop my opinion as well, why not?

For many years i have baffled with the question of ranks. How many, how high?
For the past five years, I have experience from leading NW regiments/groups of various sizes, from almost obsolete companies of ten men to a 50+ attendance regiment.

The name of the officer doesn't mean much. It depends on how complex you want your OWN regiment/clan system to be and of course how many people attend events with you.
Generally though, it's a lot easier for small groups <12 per event to have less high ranked officers; usually it makes things weird. But then again, no matter how you name the rank, Captain, Major or Colonel,
it is de facto the same thing, the leader of that particular group. The name of the rank is just for aesthetics, and whether you are fully interested in role-playing or not.

Hope I was helpful, see you around :)

Haven't been paying any attention to the other posts but meh

Colonel = Regiment (Not just 1 company)
Captain = Company / Regiment Starting (Just 1 company)

Personally I have always used Colonel (In the 56th an NW Regiment)

But if I were to move to holdfast I probably would use Captain simply due to the fact, From what I know, it is more historically accurate.

We all know it should be "Commodore" if you are in-charge of a fleet! :3

To me, the most senior in the regiment should always be Colonel. at the end of the day a massive part of ranks is so that other regiments know roughly your position, and seeing Captain's everywhere adds unneccessary confusion- this whole Captain/Major thing is very new and in the past whenever I saw them leading a regiment I always used to assume their Colonel was absent or something like that.

I like the idea of using Captain, then Colonel once your regiment is decent sized and has a detachment. This is a decision really no one will care about though.
