Observer/Spectator mode
« on: May 22, 2017, 10:43:50 am »
Hello,

As a caster, I would love to see some decent controls on the Spec mode.

So for example,

Space Bar could rise the camera like its on a crane.

Mouse wheel can speed up and slow down the speed of the camera movement

Maybe a shortcut key for a quick crash zoom.

Battlefield 4 has similar controls, should you need a reference.

--

Hopeful but unlikely wishes

To be able to save camera locations, for walk by's/cannon ball bys and  such like

To be able to save the battle as a demo (CounterStrike style) so that you can play it back using the Engine, and that it records the movement of the players in said demo.
This feature would allow great flexibility with regards to recording events, as the camera man cant be everywhere and see everything.

Also it means that other players could record their own 1st or 3rd person demos and provide them to casters or film makers to allow them to record the action from the players POV

Hotkeys for jumping to Regiments or key points/Colours+Flag bearers
Be nice to be able to bind a key to do this. Maybe have it focus in the case of regiments on the highest rank player in said regiment still on the field.

Freecam option in Spectator

Hotkey/options to turn off all HUDS, player names so its possible to have a clean image. This will help film makers with not breaking immersion.

CannonBall cam? Has comedy potetial

What about the scouting enemy movement and position exploit ?

If its introduced I hope it's a disable option server side.

It would be a neat idea if there was some kind of replay/demo editor where you can make cinematic movies or videos to advertise your regiment..as well as cool moments on your youtube channel. Could really bring the community a lot closer and can have some amazing results.

Thats a really tricky thing to accomplish, looking at it from a primarily technical standpoint

You would need to record the location of every player on the server, and those that are further away would be updated less often.

And yet keep it all smooth. Otherwise the load on the players PC to record all this could be too much.

In the case of CS for example, thats easier as u have limited numbers of players. With Napoleonic era battles, such a thing is very hard to do.

So look at this way, 125 players on a server, and the players PC who we shall say needs to record the demo needs to track the location of each player. Granted the server is dedicated and that its job to do that, but you are technically playing the game and recording the demo. Such a thing (like Battlerecorder from BattleField2) needs to be built into the plan for the game from the start.

Just a thought or 3

I agree alot, especially when spectating a live event after dying, it's a pain with the slow moving camera in NW, not to mention the camera angles. Having adjustable speeds in holdfast & a free roaming camera would be really useful to people trying to record events aswell.
