The 1st Royal Victoria Regiment was inspired by the 5th/6th Royal Victoria Regiment. The 5th/6th Battalion ("5/6 RVR") is one of two battalions of the Royal Victoria Regiment, and is an infantry battalion of the Australian Army Reserve.
The battalion can trace its lineage back to many units that existed prior to Federation, as well as units that fought during World War I and World War II and the battalion carries the battle honours of these units as a mark of respect.
Today 5/6 RVR is part of the 4th Brigade, 2nd Division and is based at various depots around Melbourne, Victoria. Recently, members from the battalion have been involved in deployments to the Middle East, East Timor, the Solomon Islands and Malaysia as part of Rifle Company Butterworth.
The leaders of the 1st chose to not go under the 5th/6th out of respect for the serving members past and present. We would feel that it would be disrespectful to even consider calling ourselves the 5th or 6th RVR and have not earned the title of Australian Soldiers, especially Infantry.
In our own way, we decided in respect of these men to go with the name but as a fictional regiment based of the 5/6 which we believe is the best option.
As this is a fictional regiment with the real RVR not being created until 1854, we have aligned ourselves with the British Empire, being an Australian Regiment to begin with.
