Conquest Feedback Thread!
« on: March 21, 2018, 07:41:59 pm »
A thread for discussing the new Conquest game mode.

89e's Feedback for Conquest (and Fort Winston)

1. Maps like grassy plains are not the most fun for conquest, some assets should be added to provide cover at the capture points.

It's difficult to say definitively that the all of flag sites need to have some kind of structure or cover, but some 89e members felt that when a flag was overly exposed it felt futile to try and capture it once it had been seized the first time.

2. Changing your next spawn point during your life would be a great feature, so that you aren't forced to spawn at the same place if you die right as the next wave spawns.

Dying at the end of a spawn wave results in you being auto-spawned to your most recent spawn point. There should be a way to dictate which spawn you will use next while you're alive.

3. Fort Winston is the best map.

Collective KRRC Feedback

  • If a flag is contested by any amount of players, the defending team should not be able to respawn on the flag.
It is far too easy to just see that A is being lost, click ESC -> Respawn and get 40 people to defend the flag. Defenders should defend their points in the first place, not be able to teleport to defend.
You should NOT be able to spawn on a flag unless you own 100% of the flag.

  • Flags that aren't home-base should have limited reinforcements. (Spawn should be the ONLY flag with 340 spawns)
    This happened in the Beta:
    1. French Empire capture all points but the UK spawn.
    2. French Empire spawn their whole team on the closest flag and rape the UK spawn for 25 minutes.
    3. United Kingdom have no chance to push out because the French have the same # of reinforcements on top of them.

We believe that flags that aren't your spawn should have a limited (5, 10, 20) slots, so this happens:
    1. French Empire capture all points but the UK spawn.
    2. French Empire slowly die due to the virtue of numbers in the UK spawn pushing out.
    3. The French are unable to continue the spawn rape, due to the forced spawn across the map.

This ALLOWS the UK to actually recover from the weight, because the French can't maintain the numbers to spawn rape.

  • Home Flags should have a perimeter dead zone.
We got into a situation where one team had 6 flags, and just LOCKED the enemy in their spawn for 25 minutes. An area up to X meters should be a dead zone, disallowing the enemies completely from spawn camping by removing access. Granted, on some of the smaller maps - this would be harder to do. See next suggestion.
We see this being a problem on smaller maps since it would close off a large portion of them. This system is used in Battlefield 1 & 4, but their maps are significantly bigger.

  • Certain maps do not work with Conquest.
Fort Winston (to our assumption) was designed for Conquest; and works perfectly for it. Tahir Desert just allows defenders to see attackers coming a mile away and converge reinforcements by spamming reinforcement spawns. Crosshills & Spanish Farm revolved entirely around the central flag; the team that took it dominated for the rest of the game. While we understand the development team is small and can't pump out maps - the map dedicated to this game mode performed SIGNIFICANTLY better.

  • Independent Reinforcement Waves over Team Wave Reinforcements
If attackers manage to eliminate all enemies on a flag, but the wave timer happens to be on 1 second - you're taking 15 seconds to reload a weapon and your entire enemy defense has respawned. This is a problem. Wave timers (10s or 12s) should begin when you die, and should not be a collective wave timer.

  • Objective-focused gameplay should be rewarded more than killing people.
You should receive a lot more points for playing the game mode you're playing, in this instance, conquest.

    1. The lump sum for successfully capturing an objective should be +250, +500 or even +1000.
    2. Killstreaks maybe should be locked to Riflemen; this gives an incentive to line infantry and other classes to actually play the objective. Too many people don't WANT to capture flags.
    3. You should receive +Bonus Points for killing an enemy who is on your flag.
    4. You should receive +Bonus points for killing an enemy while attacking their flag.

  • Spawn Zone & Capture Zone should be synonymous.
On Fort Winston, defenders were spawning on top of the wall and not actually on the flag zone at all (on the floor). This made for a really awkward situation where the defenders were shooting down on the attackers, but not actually defending the flag - and the attackers had a hard time completing the attack.

  • Conquest should have an odd number of objectives.
Stalemates are boring. One team should always have an advantage, and be rewarded by +points by owning the majority of flags. Currently impossible with some even-objective maps.

  • Odd Flag Placements?
Flag F (we believe) on Fort Christina is behind the fort... why? Whichever team captures the fort basically just gets an additional flag, because the fort completely covers it. It's illogical to attack it, because the Fort defends it. This is just one example; we couldn't see any other examples in this Beta test.

Thanks lads,
Haybales & The KRRC

Agreed.

2. Changing your next spawn point during your life would be a great feature, so that you aren't forced to spawn at the same place if you die right as the next wave spawns.

When you die, you should just be kicked back to the spawning interface - same way as in Battlefield 1 and 4.

But yes, spawning should be made easier in some way or another.

On Fort Winston, the "Wastelands" flag (not sure if this is the one mentioned by Haybales) is almost impossible to attack when the enemy also holds the fort because there is little cover and the fort has direct line of sight on to it with multiple cannons. If you capture the fort, that flag comes free with it. Additionally, having one of the flags (C, the fort) be so heavily fortified is strange for this gamemode, because if one team captures it and is able to manage their resources defending it and defending their other flags, they will dominate the game.

Spawns:  Assumption here that you may be using dynamic spawn entities for both teams, not individual team spawn objects?

So... It would be better if each team spawned 'behind' the objective, not in a random circle around the objective zone.  I would suggest to NOT spawn either team "inside" the zone, but just behind it/nearest their starting "side" of the map.  I realize this may be a larger effort based on how the spawn objects are used in the game.

I mention this because I think we all have spawned right in the middle of an attack or rape fest and are often dead before we move more than a step or more.  To counter the distance, perhaps slow the cap time a bit more to allow the defenders to cover 10 or 20 meters back to the cap zone.  It is really difficult and a bit ridiculous to be spawning amid chaos :)

I will save my BIG concept for when I get my twitching hands on the map making tools!!!    XO
