4th "The King's Own" Regiment of Foot - www.4thfoot.com
« on: August 24, 2017, 11:49:29 pm »

The King's Own is a unit designed for competitive play and administrative modularity. Our goal is to create a highly skilled unit for players who want to pit their individual skills and teamwork against like minded opponents, while also being a community for them to enjoy a drink with on a random game night. We expect our members to be mature players who see value in playing a game competitively at this large a scale. In return the unit will provide you with servers, people to play with, and maybe even future friends. When it comes to progression and retention within our unit, we have a unique system of rankings and awards that are designed to keep the unit running effectively but fairly.

We have set our mission to be the creation of a unit that places the administrative load on infantry modules consisting of 20 members per section, therefore relieving the burden off of the initial founders of the unit. This means that a greater number of members are personally invested into the unit, which results in better decision making and longevity. In addition, this also means our entire rank structure is based on actual responsibilities that will be held by a number of members within the unit. To counterbalance the fact that members have lives outside of the internet, we have broken the ranks into UR (Unit Rank) and CR (Community Rank) this builds into our overall progression system that we call R.C.A (Responsibilities, Contributions, Awards).

Responsibilities come with Rank. Each module (section) consists of 20 people. These members are considered active based on the data provided by our automated attendance system. 3 of those 20 are responsible for the rest. These include 1 Corporal, and 2 Lance Corporals. A Sergeant is assigned to that module as its 21st member, however he has his own position outside of that 20 man formation. Between the 4 of them it is their responsibility to make sure that their members show up to events, and to input data into our automated attendance system. Other responsibilities include, training, recommending promotions, removing inactive members, recruiting, and being assigned admin on servers during peak hours, etc. All other members are Privates, unless they put forward an interest on taking up responsibilities within the unit. (Apply anonymously online) We see this to be the best way to use a rank structure within an online community because the rank is justified by increased responsibility. All promotions are merit based. Officer ranks will be created when necessary, currently the unit is lead by a Corporal so that the modules can be scaled up. This type of rank is called UR (Unit Rank)

Contributions to the Community. A member who has gone up the ranks in our unit is someone who has undoubtedly contributed an effort towards making it better. This is why as their UR goes up, they are given a community rank with it. This rank is effectively invisible, but it is ultimately the tag that gives them the privileges that they earned, like having access to the Staff Board, admin pass, ability to move users and create channels, etc. We understand that people may have new commitments in their lives that will take them out of the game for some time, but we also know that their responsibilities need to be fulfilled. This is why we have two concurrent rank structures. An Officer or NCO may request a demotion without losing their hard earned reputation. CR will mark their contributions to our community, and facilitate their return to a previously held UR. CR will also help us organize our community if we expand into different games where we may need to use other rank structures. CR is numbered based on the British Army Rank structure of the time. Recruit is CR1, Private is CR2, and so on.

Awards as Progress. The majority of players do not want to be given extra responsibilities, they are here to play the game and kick some ass. We understand that by strictly linking our rank progression to responsibility, we are taking away a kind of progression that other units have to offer. This is something you should be aware of before joining. In exchange we have a system of rewards that function as a form of achievements. These are tagged to your user on Teamspeak and on our website. They are challenging enough to keep them scarce and to provide differentiation between our experienced and new members.

Company Rank Structure

Commissioned officers;

Captain
is an officer rank equivalent to the community rank of CR9.
He is responsible for managing the unit and advancing its mission.
Only the Commanding Officer of the 4th may hold this rank
therefore there may only be one in the unit.
To attain this rank the unit needs to have maintained an attendance
of 60 active members for a month, reduction in unit numbers
must be followed by reduction in rank for the Commanding Officer.

Lieutenant
is an officer rank equivalent to the community rank of CR8.
He is responsible for functioning as a second in command for the unit.
Additional Lieutenants will be promoted based on unit size.
Their responsibilities will be tied in with managing 2 infantry
sections (40 men). In the case that the unit maintains an active
attendance of 40 active members, the commanding officer will hold
the rank of Lieutenant.

Ensign
is an officer rank equivalent to the community rank of CR7.
He is responsible for all non modular staff. In addition, this rank is
used as an entry level rank for new officers who will receive assignments
as necessary.
Non-commissioned officers;

Colour Serjeant
is an enlisted non commissioned officer rank equivalent to the community
rank of CR6. He has the same responsibilities as a Sjt but holds his rank
due to experience. This happens in a number of ways. A Sjt who has been
in his position and has effectively fulfilled his role will receive this rank if
no commissions are available, or he refuses a commission. An officer who
wants to step down into a position as a Sjt will also be granted this rank.

Serjeant
is an enlisted non commissioned officer rank equivalent to the community
rank of CR5. He is responsible for overseeing an infantry section. (20 men)
His job focuses on the greater vision of the unit. He will plan and oversee
training, and provide guidance to junior staff. The Corporals focus on the
sections and the Serjeants look ahead. In addition like all NCO's he will
have duties assigned to him for the upkeep of the community as a whole.
However his job will be more community focused while his Corporals will be
around the section. A Serjeant will face demotion if his section goes inactive
and no replacements have been recruited.

Corporal
is an enlisted non commissioned officer rank equivalent to the community rank
of CR4. He is the backbone of the unit. The Corporal manages a group of 20 members.
This group is called a section and is at times informally called a module. His
responsibilities are centered on the section. He is responsible for the members in it,
and most importantly their attendance. The officers in the unit do everything in their
ability to make the Corporals job easier. This is why Serjeants are assigned to community
work, and an automated attendance system exists. Corporals are expected to keep their
sections sufficiently staffed and to encourage recruitment. If a section loses the majority
of its members then it will be folded, and that specific Corporal position will cease to exist.
The person holding it may face demotion.
Enlisted men;

Lance Corporal
is an enlisted rank equivalent to the community rank of CR3. His responsibilities are with
the section. He is assigned duties that assist both our community and his section. He helps
the Corporal complete the attendance and gather their people for events. In addition
Lance Corporals admin our servers and provide guidance to new members. Overall a
Lance Corporal is someone who is experienced in the  game and is willing to take take on
some responsibilities within the unit.

Private
is an enlisted rank equivalent to the community rank of CR2. Privates are the fighting force
of the 4th. The majority of members will be Privates. This ranks responsibilities include, attending
events, staying in touch with their section, using the attendance system, and maintaining a high
standard in both their skills, and their own self discipline that will reflect positively on our unit.
Privates who wish to take up additional responsibilities may apply to become Lance Corporals
through an anonymous system that will then put them in a trial phase. Those that do not, will make
up the majority of our everyday players who will play in our community, and show off their prowess
by earning awards and badges.

Recruit
is an enlisted rank equivalent to the community rank of CR1. Recruit is the entry level for any member
of our unit. They must show an understanding of the way our unit works and meet the same expectations
as Privates, these include attending events, staying in touch with their section, using the attendance
system, and maintaining a high standard in both their skills and their own self discipline. Recruits will
be promoted after a weeks worth of events.

Our focus is on empowering the sub-unit, these sections of 20 people are the backbone of the 4th. They are self reliant, and self administrating. With this is mind we seek to function as a platform for these sub-units, providing them with guidance, events, and most importantly fun. We are essentially franchising out our name, reputation, and methods of administration.

European Detachment
The EU players have events on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at 1900 GMT. The EU Company is currently led by Cpl Evans. Their leadership positions are currently open. Trials to fill them are underway.

North American Detachment
The NA players have events on Wednesday, Friday, at 2000 EST and Saturday at 1400 EST. The NA Company is currently led by Cpl Evans. Their leadership positions are currently occupied. Trials to fill them have been completed. More positions will be available when the second section is formed.

Questions and Answers

Q: Are you EU or NA
A: Both. Refer to Detachments post above.

Q: Do you have an age limit?
A: Not as of now. Anyone bellow a future age limit would be grandfathered into that system.

Q: What is your average age?
A: Early to Mid 20's.

Q: Do I need a mic?
A: Not for Holdfast.

Q: Do I need other software to play?
A: Teamspeak is our way of communication by voice and Steam by text.

Q: What are your tags?
A: [4th] Pte. John Bloggins is an example.

Q: I am a member of the ___ military and serve as active duty / deployment, and might not be able to commit to all events and may need to leave for extended periods of time. Is it okay for me to join in with accommodations for attendance?
A: Yes, you can. We have both serving and retired members of militaries from both North America and Europe, and a system for all members to be exempt from events, we prefer to have the info in advance but we allow it to be late to accommodate those who have impromptu assignments to do. We collect this info so that we can have an accurate projected attendance.

Q: What is this automated attendance system you speak of?
A: Its a sheet with everyone's names on it, and in their appropriate units, people with permissions put in the attendance (Attended, Absent, Excused) for that day and it creates a result in the form of an average attendance for that player and their sub-unit as a whole. We review it each month to remove those that are inactive. We delegate this responsibility to the sub-unit level.

Q: Do you use Historical Names?
A: Yes, however players call each other by their nicknames that are in their users description.

Q: Do I need to change my Steam name?
A: No, we use the in game name feature, the [4th] tag on Steam is only mandatory for Staff.

Q: Are Enlisted players muted during events?
A: No, we have been very efficient in calling out hits and this has greatly improved our aim. However the use of comms is very strict and they are limited to orders and call outs. PTS is in session at a leaders discretion, otherwise we resort to Tac-comms by default, this allows players to call their hits and to spot enemies using cardinal directions.

Q: You use we in this post, but who runs this unit?
A: We are currently run by a Corporal, 2 Lance Corporals, with the support of some Privates who have qualified for Community Rank 3.

Q: In regards to rules, do you have limitations on what members can post or discuss?
A: In-match we will have no tolerance for anything that is not related to the match. Out of game its free reign, be as much of a dirt bag as you want. If you piss off the wrong people that's on you. Just post where you're supposed to. Only criminal content is prohibited.

Q: One of your members hurt my feeling and I wet my panties.
A: Fuck off cunt.

Q: Do you plan on expanding into other games
A: Yes, if a better NW game/mod comes out we'll set up a company over there, similar style games like BCOF are also likely. Post Scriptum is an FPS that we are eyeing up. All of these will run concurrently under the 4th name allowing you to play these various games within one community. That's part of what the modular system and CR is intended to do. We may pull a Google and create a parent company if the 4th name seems inappropriate for a games setting.

Q: Can I have (x) position
A: If you can back it up with experience.

Q: How often do you have events?
A: EU events are on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at 19:00 GMT (BST) - NA Events are on Wednesday, Friday at 20:00 EST and Saturday at 14:00 EST

Q: Do you have training?
A: 30 min before events is what is currently done.

Q: Will you start a ship crew?
A: If naval battles take off with the community.

Q: Are you aware that there are a number of fraudulent doppelganger units trying to use the 4th name?
A: Yes, do us a favour and deny them entry into any events you host, thanks.
