Prussian Military Tunes
« on: January 19, 2018, 02:49:45 pm »
Hello everyone,

Rejenorst and I are trying to find Prussian tunes for the new Prussian faction. We are having a difficult time finding usable tunes, so if you know any tunes that were used by the Prussians it would be great! We are looking for tunes that were used in between 1792 to 1812 in the Prussian Army.

Untill now we have 4 tunes done:
- Yorkshermarsch
- Hohenfriedberger Marsch
- Lockmarsh
- Pariser Einzugsmarsch

Working on:
- Grenadiermarsch
- Der Dessauer
- Der Coburger
- Marsch von König Friedrich II

In 1817, the King compiled a collection of marches called the Armeemarschsammlung, divided into three categories for infantry slow and fast marches (I and II) and cavalry (III). You have to be careful because their entry numbers aren't in chronological order and there are Russian, Austrian, Saxon etc. marches mixed in, but this would be the best place to start looking. Anything below 100 should be pre-1817.

AMS II - doesn't seem to have a convenient playlist, but there are a few scattered across youtube.

Personally I recommend "Der Dessauer" (AMS I, 1b) and "Der Coburger" (AMS I, 27).

There is a reprint of the sheet music available, if you want to fork out the money, but they're probably all written for regimental orchestras and not fife and drum, so you would still need to re-arrange them. Playing by ear would be cheaper.

- Der Dessauer

One can only hope that there will be trompets coming into the game with the Prussians  8)
And one does not simply forgets about the "Preußens Gloria", when adding Prussia!

Thank you for all your suggestions! Please keep them rolling in! :D

Preußens Gloria was written in 1871, that's over half a century after the Napoleonic Wars.

Präsentiermarsch is quite a good idea.

Heil dir im Siegerkranz should be added just like La Marseillaise was added, Prussian lovers need it.

EDIT: We can not forget of Pariser Einzugsmarsch.
