It's not super necessary but having the ability to look left and right without turning the torso would be a nice touch. The ARMA 3 method is ideal but anything roughly along those lines would be gravy for watching the flanks without screwing up your place in the line! Also good and helpful for forming said lines as you can check your positioning without constantly forming column or looking left/right with the whole body.

Agreed! Right now it feels very clunky looking around.

If the tilde key doesn't work, you can rebind it to another through the 'Key' options. Look for Cameras and change the 'Orbit Camera' setting.
