I'd be okay with the combat from M&B, but I'd also be okay with a new combat system.

Realistic melee: Melee was quick and deadly irl so there really only needs to be a few melee actions and not all the directional stuff thats in NW.

You'd be surprised about how fast a NW melee can end, even with considerable menpower on both sides.

As you said, this is a new game, it needs to be better, but not necessarly different.

Implying NW combat isn't horrendously broken.

I guess bayonet thrusts travelling at full speed and bouncing off peoples faces are realistic in some parts of the world.

Implying NW combat isn't horrendously broken.

I guess bayonet thrusts travelling at full speed and bouncing off peoples faces are realistic in some parts of the world.
Generally speaking a poke only occurs on NW when you are out of range or too close to your opponent, all though this would not be exact in real life a similar effect would happen. Of course if you stab someone with little to no range so you cannot apply a proper thrust then it will not stab straight through, the same thing happens if you cannot quite extend your range far enough.

What about a system like in Just Cause 2, where you can't melee at all.

Mount and blade is such a fun game to play competitively because you can always get better, the melee mechanics is probably the biggest reason why I have 2000+ hours into M&B. After 2000+ hours I can still get better and I still enjoy fighting in melee. I wouldn't mind some refreshment to the melee system but I'm sure we can all agree the Mount and blade melee system is one of the best out there for large scale combat!
