Guardias de Infanteria Española
History of the regiment
The Guards were created in 1704 in Vallecas, Spain which is where the barracks are aswell. there were in joint with the Captain of the French Guards. The regiment was composed with 2 Battallions of 13 Companies, including 1 of Grenadiers (Granaderos), formed with chosen men of the Rifle Companies , mustering up to 2.8k each. In that same year was the Baptism of Fire, when 2 units participated in the Invasion of Portugal, and the Catalonia front, which both were part of the Theatre Ops of the Austracistas (those who supported to Charles of Austria). The Guards showed there worth in the conquest of Sicily and Sardinia, the blockade and siege of Ceuta, Giblatar and Oran as participating in the Polish Sucession War and Austrian Sucession War. They were considered the first of the Infantry and received the Banner of Castilla for their Colonel Company.
