To the extent that people follow the squad systems in other games like Battlefield, this will do nothing. If you join a 'squad' with a group of friends, yes you will stick together. Without the squad you would also find each other and stick together. If you join a 'squad' with a bunch of random people, chances are nobody's going to stick together. However, I imagine when the regiments and crews feature comes out, you will probably be able to very easily determine where your friends are, like what might happen in a 'squad', making it easier for you to stick with them. If you don't have any friends that play with you, you can find a regiment to join and play with them as a group.
The best you'll be able to do with a 'squad' of riflemen is yell at them in squad voice chat to group up, hoping that they decide to listen to you and not mute you. Which you can do to an extent with local voice chat already in the game, as well as the global text chat.
I mean it would be a nice optional feature for server admins to have, but it might just boil down to extra work for the developers on something that might not accomplish anything.
