"THE REPUBLIC WAS A MISTAKE"
Marechal Deodoro da Fonseca
Somos Um regimento Brasileiro de Holdfast: Nations at war.
The Political emancipation of Brazil happened in 1823 when the country broke free from the portuguese government
Despite the peaceful Proccess of independence, the provinces os Pará, Maranhão, Piauí, Bahia and Cisplatina rebelled against the new current order and declared loyalty to the Lisbon Crown
With the purpose of consolidating de Brazilian independence and defeat the rebels, El Rei Dom Pedro created the "Batalhão do Imperador", in january 1823.
This unit were composed by high-grade soldiers in both Moral and Military means, including the lieutenant Luís Alves de Lima e Silva
Their first fight - Always loyal to the Brazilian emperor D. Pedro I- was in the Province of bahia, where they were expecting a tough fight against the rebels. The Colonel José Joaquim de Lima e Silva - Whom was commanding the Imperial Battalion- took the command of the "Peacemaker Army", and launched a great offensive against the portuguese and the rebels.
The Brazilian army entered Salvador, retaking the city, crushing the loyalists and the portuguese. Among the heroes born in the fierce battle, were the Private Maria Quitéria de Jesus, that disguised herself as a man to defend her newborn nation, being allowed to stay in the army and using a skirt with her uniform because of her bravery into the fray.
Crowned with success in combat, the Emperor's Battalion was again mobilized, now in the Cisplatin War, 1825, Captain Luís Alves de Lima e Silva stands out as a great leader.
The brilliant and recognized Caxias' ascension through the military ranks to Major allowed him to become the unit's Sub-Commander, whose Commander was his uncle, Colonel Manoel da Fonseca de Lima e Silva.
Differently from the glorious Caxias' trajectory, the First Reign wasn't able to establish itself, resulting in D. Pedro I's abdication. The Emperor's Battalion was then extinct, being reestablished in 1933, as the "Guards Battalion", based in the city Rio de Janeiro, at the time, the country's Federal Capital.
With the transference of the country's capital do Brasília, this unit was also sent to the Planalto Central, being renamed as "Batalhão da Guarda Presidencial".
The BGP has accomplished many missions for the Brazilian republic, specially on cerimonial marches for the president of the republic, the chiefs of state and the diplomatic corps.
And also ensuring law and order when the army is in low guard.
In 2010, the unit, already famous for his acts, was renamed again as "Batalhão Duque de Caxias", as a tribute for the patron of the brazilian army, the Duke of Caxias.
Our regimental command is 24 h/day online, always ready to help and train our new recruits. We also have a spiritual leader, our all-knowing, all-powerful brazilian-polish Colonel: Telepoi. may God bless his soul.
