The looks of Teamspeak and the scripts are both very outdated in my opinion, considering Teamspeak servers are just as dedicated as Discord servers but still misses a lot of basic stuff Discord offers.
Some of the things missing from Teamspeak and what Discord has to offer are separate text and voice channels, meaning you don't have to switch voice channel to switch text channel, you don't even have to be in a voice channel 24/7. Secondly, chat is saved in a similar way as in Skype, meaning its not only available to you if you've been inside that channel nor online, but its always available, for everyone. Discord also takes advantage of address links and the web browser, meaning you can click an invite link and get on the server without even having to download the program. Contacts are possible to keep outside of servers just like in Teamspeak, meaning you can call and chat with someone privately outside of any servers.
Sure, Teamspeak has soundboard integration
, priority speaker
and really specific perms for usergroups
unlike discord, but otherwise it has the same functions as Discord.
Discord has for long been aiming to be a combination of Skype and Teamspeak and they are about to succeed with their continuous godspeed updates. Discord bots are basically the compensation for the Teamspeak addons, without them its a sh*tstorm in both programs. We've probably all seen the Teamspeak servers and Discord servers which add 100s of addons and bots, and those servers which doesn't add anything and whose owners has no knowledge how to make usergroups and give out correct perms, both are bad examples. But as people has said earlier, Teamspeak is still better for regimental purposes as of today, but as a server admin for a M&B:NW server, I've come to realize that discord is a very good addition to keeping in contact to players and admins outside of the game with the ability to alert, announce, chat and discuss without having to bring everyone together in a voice channel at a certain hour of the day.
Feel free to drop by the NWRP discord
to see how we manage it. It has 180+ members in total with 60 players usually online at the same time during the day and its not a shitstorm.
But of course the regiment itself, 59th still uses Teamspeak.
