Getting rid of this idea of an old-guard from MM is a good thing; the idea that NW is a secret club only accessible to FSE oldies and whatnot is stupid and does nothing for the community.
Nobody cares how early you played MM or NW if you just ditched it once it wasn't huge anymore, and the idea of these people looking at Holdfast and being disgusted by ideas of innovation/ways to bring in newbies is mad to me.
Why wouldn't you want your game to be fun, popular and approachable for noobs? If you think being around for NW automatically makes you entitled to something a total noob isn't, you're delusional. While some true oldies of the game are still involved in the community beyond just regimental stuff, there is a massive chunk of the playerbase who never even visited FSE.
Personally I think the less space taken up by these regimental folk who treat it all like a super serious business instead of a fun game to play with friends, the better. You can have great organisation and immersion without forcing some faggy elitist attitude on everyone-nothing says shitty community like some 15 year old screeching down a mic at 20 people to stay in a perfect line or he'll ban them.
There's only 2 or 3 non-regimental/bot servers left that are reasonably populated (not sure what NA scene is anymore though we have NA admins so I'm guessing not so hot) and on our server we're working as hard as we can to bring in new people and keep them around so that Holdfast has a bigger community than just a bunch of bickering dusty old fucks from FSE/MM.
NW is a bit janky/wobbly after so many years but at its core it is a fun, well designed game seeing as we can still field battles of 250 players and have it all play it out a fun and immersive way.
Treat Holdfast like a cool sequel as opposed to a waste of time/what should have been there in the first place.
I'm excited, moreso than I am for Bannerlord really. The Holdfast devs have in a few months been more transparent and friendly than Taleworlds have in their entire career.
